In recent weeks, in various parts of the world, working from home has become a new reality for many… and video conferencing is not always easy. Children appear, the dog barks, there’s background noise… it happens to all of us. <\/p>\n\n

From both our side and that of clients, there have been embarrassing moments and avoidable mistakes. That’s why we’ve gathered some tips for having successful video calls from home. <\/p>\n\n

1. Choose the right environment. Consider what’s around you, including the background. It’s better to have a smooth wall and avoid windows that provide too much backlight. If you’re using a laptop, place it in a stable location. Subtle camera movements can be distracting. <\/p>\n\n

2. Invite anyone, anytime. Video conferencing doesn’t always have to be scheduled; if you’re in the middle of a lengthy email conversation, you can set up a meeting instantly and invite people to join. In this new normality, video calls have become the primary form of communication for intergroup and group meetings in every organization. There’s a wide range of experience and preparation, so we’ve put together these tips. <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n

3. Share only what you want to share. It often happens during screen sharing that someone accidentally minimizes the window, revealing their emails, open #WhatsApp<\/a>, or cluttered desktop. To avoid this, pay attention to presentation options, select only the window you want to show, not the entire view of your screen.<\/p>\n\n

4. Be real. We all have a life outside of work. Depending on the culture of your workplace, it may be okay (even encouraged) to show a bit of your “real” life, such as letting your child greet the camera or having lunch if you’ve been on back-to-back calls all day. Showing a bit of your life can foster deeper connections with your coworkers and even create empathy for whatever you’re dealing with outside of work.<\/p>\n\n

5. How do I see everyone?
